Goodlettsville 8U - Takes The Lead Late And Defeats Lexington 7-5
Goodlettsville snatched the lead late in their 7-5 victory over Lexington on Saturday. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the fourth when Jake Reed singled, scoring two runs.
Lexington got on the board in the top of the first inning after Greyde H scored after tagging up, Elijah G singled, and Liam H scored after tagging up, each scoring one run. Lexington held the lead 3-0 through the top of the 3rd.
Goodlettsville struck in the bottom of the 3rd with four straights hits by Micah Brenner, Jaren McDonald, KJ McClung, and Cash Long. Micah and Jaren scored to close the gap to 3-2.
Lexington scored two runs in the top of the 4th expanding the lead to 5-2.
Goodlettsville flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on six hits to take a 7-5 lead. Greyson Collins lead off the bottom of the 4th with a triple to left field. Maddox Douglas singled to centerfield driving in Collins. Fisher Freeman followed Maddox with a double to center bringing Douglas to the plate. Pierson Hughes hit a bomb to left scoring Freeman. Everett Hines followed with a bloop single. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Jake Reed that drove in Freeman and Hines.
Lexington made a push in the top of the 5th but a diving stop by the SS Cash Long with a throw home to Everett Hines ended the threat. Hines caught the runner in a pickle and made a diving play tagging the runner at 3rd.
Goodlettsville ended the game in the top of the 6th with a diving catch by Micah Brenner with doubling up the runner at first base with help from first baseman Greyson Collins. Collins led Goodlettsville defensively with eight putouts. Other notable defensive plays were the Goodlettsville outfield led by Easton Crocker and Liam Sheridan.
Goodlettsville amassed 12 hits in the game. Jake Reed seized on their opportunities, leading Goodlettsville with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The outfielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Jaren McDonald and Grayson Collins each collected two hits for Goodlettsville.
