Blazing Bats Bash Bama

The question when you get to this stage is how will the players respond on a bigger stage? That stage being the Southeast Region stadium in Warner Robbins. That question was answered quickly last night versus Alabama as Goodlettsville’s bats were blazing as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning of play. Ace Eschenburg lit the match with a hard single up the middle. Two walks were issued to Jackson White and Armando DeDios respectively loading the basses with Eschenburg scoring moments later on a passed ball to open the scoring. Jackson White followed off the bat of Easton Spain who flew out to left allowing White to score on an errant throw home. Jayden Lee pounded a single into right center to score DeDios followed by a strong drive to left field by Tyler Campbell scoring Lee extending the lead to 4-0.
Alabama bounced back in the bottom half with two runs on three hits to close the deficit to 4-2 after one but the bats continued to blaze white hot in the visitors’ dugout. Luke West led off the second with a walk allowing Mason Eakes to bring him home on a bomb to the left field fence for a standup double increasing the lead to 5-2. A beautiful bunt by Jeremiah Paye scored Eakes as Alabama raced to the ball and hastily threw the ball to first in a futile attempt to get Paye. The ball rolled down the right field line allowing the speedster to race to third. Paye would score moments later on a passed ball giving Goodlettsville a 7-2 advantage entering the bottom half of the inning.
Alabama led off the bottom half with their fourth hit of the game but the runner was quickly erased from the bases by the tough nosed Easton Spain behind the plate who threw the runner out with plenty of room to spare. With two outs Jackson White took over pitching duties striking out the last batter to end the inning with Goodlettsville holding a commanding 7-2 advantage.
The third inning would be more of the same for Goodlettsville as Tyler Campbell ripped another double to left allowing Luke West to drive him home with a hard double to right center field increasing the lead to 8-2. Goodlettsville added more in the fourth as Jeremiah Paye, Ace Eschenburg and Armando DeDios collected hits in the inning. Paye would score off the bat of Ace Eschenburg who blasted a line drive double into left center short hopping the fence. Eschenburg would score on the errant throw home increasing the lead to 10-2.
The Alabama offense went cold as Jackson White took command on the mound shutting down the Alabama bats over the next two innings limiting the boys in crimson to one hit while striking out six allowing Goodlettsville to steadily put the game out of reach.
The final two innings were all Goodlettsville as the team added nine hits to the stat sheet off the bats of Ace Eschenburg, Armando DeDios, Jayden Lee, Tyler Campbell Luke West, Jeremiah Paye and Johnny Cuthill. When the dust settled the score read 19-3 in favor of the boys in white, blue and gold.
Tyler Campbell led the team on offense going a smooth 4-4. Ace Eschenburg and Jeremiah Paye were a perfect 3-3 followed by Armando DeDios who went 2-2. Jayden Lee and Luke West were a solid 2-3 with Mason Eakes and Johnny Cuthill capping off the hitting with one hit each.
The team moves on to face Virginia at 7pm eastern time on ESPN+
